GEOPHYSICIST

Geophysicists might be adventurous. They are prepared to take risks. They are probably mechanically minded and like working with tools. The are confident and curious.

The Geophysicists from both teams will cooperate and work together.

The Geophysicist will:

  • Set up seismic equipment to monitor the surface for 'earthquakes'

  • Use a Geiger counter to survey the surface for any areas of high radiation, and place warning markers for other astronauts

  • Conduct a thermal survey of the surface temperature, searching for signs of underground lava

The Geophysicists equipment includes:

  • Seismic monitoring equipment

  • Geiger counter

  • Thermal probes

The Geophysicist will be in direct contact with the DPSE (Data Processing Systems Engineer) in Mission Control.

The DPSE will:

  • Monitor atmospheric readings on the Mars surface

  • Assist the Geophysicists where necessary to set up seismic equipment and record data

  • Record the location of any areas of high radioactivity

  • Record information and data from the thermal survey (is Mars still geologically active?)

TASK: Write a brief report explaining why you would be great for this job.
