COMMANDER

Commanders might be good communicators who are prepared to take responsibility and make decisions. They like to be in charge, and will keep a cool head in a crisis. They are trustworthy.

The Commander is responsible for the safety of all astronauts on the surface. The Commanders from both teams will cooperate and work together.


The Commander will:

  • Have an understanding of all astronaut roles

  • Be the first astronaut on the surface

  • Lay out marker pegs at sites to be investigated (you'll need to read a map)

  • Ensure all tasks are complete and assist astronauts as required

  • Ensure all data is relayed to Mission Control

  • Ensure photographs are taken


The Commander's equipment includes:

  • Marker pegs

  • Tablet computer


The Commander will be in direct contact with the MISSION DIRECTOR in Mission Control.



The MISSION DIRECTOR will:

  • coordinate the mission team, ensuring the safety of all astronauts and that all tasks are completed

  • record the location and assist where necessary the setting out of the marker pegs

  • prompt the Commander to ensure all tasks are completed on the surface
